Jahangirnagar Theatre (Auditorium) staged its play Chilekothar Sepai on Saturday at Selim Al Deen Muktamancha of Jahangirnagar University.
The play was staged on the sixth day of a weeklong theatre festival, titled ‘Bongo Milon Nattya Utsab – 2019’, organised by JU-based Jahangirnagar Theatre (Auditorium).
Chilekothar Sepai, an adaptation of Aktaruzzaman Elias’ popular novel with the same title, has been directed by Dipankar Chakrabarty.
The play revolves around the mass movement of 1969. Prior to the liberation war, 1969 was the most eventful year in our political history. In those days, two movements, six-point demand by Awami League and 11-point demand by the students, simultaneously inspired people to resist against the Pakistani oppressors.
Through Osman, the central character in Chilekothar Sepai, the play gives the audience a glimpse into that time.
The play ends with the death of Khijir, who is shot to death by the Pakistan occupation forces. Khijir’s death inspires Osman to rebel against the Pakistani oppressors.
