Maldives continues to ride the wave of growth with a growing number of Indian travellers each year. The island nation saw a huge growth of 96.4% in holidaymaker arrivals from India from January to May 2019 in contrast to the same period last year. Maldives hosted around 66,265 visitors from Asia’s third-largest economy till May of 2019.
Thoyyib Mohamed, the managing director of Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation (MMPRC) stated: “The country saw incredible growth in arrivals from India this year. India is a very vital market to us, showing potential for more growth as bigger direct networks have made it easily accessible to travel to Maldives.”
The Indian market holds third place in terms of comings to the Maldives with a market share of 8.8% till May 2019. Additionally, as India ranks within the top five, with great convenience to the Maldives, Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation (MMPRC) plans to further support the market with additional actions during the year.
MMPRC is entering into partnerships with key travel operators and online travel agencies in India. Apart from this, it is looking forward to team up with Indian superstars which are followed by many travel customers in India.
