DHAKA, August 7, 2019 (BSS) – The government is closely observing the situation in Kashmir, India, said Awami League General Secretary and road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader.
“As a neighbour we are closely observing the situation in Kashmir, India. We have no right to say anything and raise question about the internal matters of any country,” said Quader while inaugurating an anti-dengue campaign at Shah Ali Mazar road in Dhaka’s Mirpur area today.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh and India today decided to work together to combat border smuggling and strengthen cooperation to make border management more effective.
The decision came at the 7th round of home minister level talks held in New Delhi on Wednesday.
The visiting Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzzaman Khan led the 16-member Bangladesh delegation while his Indian counterpart Amit Shah led the Indian delegation to the talks.
During the meeting, the two sides held a threadbare discussion on border management, security issues and combating cross-border terrorism when they reiterated their commitment to work closely for an effective border management, according to a statement issued by the Bangladesh High Commission after the meeting.
In this context, they attached importance on cooperation between border guards of the two countries.
Speaking on the issue, Indian Home Minister Amit Shah lauded Bangladesh’s policy as none can use its (Bangladesh) land for terrorist activities in other countries including in India.
About Rohingya issue, the Indian home minister assured Bangladesh of extending all out support for ensuring safe and dignified repatriation of Myanmar citizens, who took shelter in Bangladesh being persecuted by the Myanmar army.
The Bangladesh home minister thanked Indian government on behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for its humanitarian assistance for the Rohingya refugees. He extended invitation to his Indian counterpart to visit Bangladesh.
At the very outset of the meeting, Bangladesh home minister expressed deep shock and sorrows at the death of former External Affairs Minister of India Sushma Swaraj.
The 6th Bangladesh-India home minister level talks was held on July last year in Dhaka when the two countries decided to work in closer cooperation to ensure a crime free border, training of policemen and combating militancy.
