Goethe-Institut renews School Partnership

The Goethe-Institut Bangladesh has renewed the Memorandum of Understandings of the PASCH initiative “Schools: Partners for the Future” with its five partner schools.
The main objectives of the partnership for the next three years were discussed during a reception at the Goethe-Institut Bangladesh auditorium on Sunday, 4th August, 2019 evening, according to a press release.
Mr. H.E. Peter Fahrenholtz German ambassador to Bangladesh und Dr. Kirsten Hackenbroch, Director of Goethe-Institut/ Bangladesh, welcomed the representatives of all five partner schools to the event and discussed about the future initiatives for the young learners of the partner schools in Bangladesh. They also emphasized the objective of creating vivid and long-lasting links between Bangladesch and Germany through the initiative PASCH.
The principals, PASCH school coordinators and many teachers of the five partner schools, i.e. Maple Leaf International School, Oxford International School, European Standard School, Chattogram Mastermind International School and South Point School & College, were present at the event. Furthermore, the PASCH coordinator of Goethe-Institut Bangladesh, Mr. Kamrul Hasan, and the DAAD representative, Mrs. Rumana Kabir, provided insights and outlooks on the PASCH programme and the opportunities of higher education in Germany.
Last year, Goethe-Institut Bangladesh and its five partner schools, Oxford International School, European Standard School, South Point School and College, Maple leaf International School and Chattogram Mastermind International School, celebrated 10 years of “Schools: Partner for the Future” (PASCH initiative) with a concert of a German-Swiss reagga and dancehall band RAGGABUND. The four-members band RAGGABUND rocked the audience at the National Theater Hall, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy last year on the 10th September. This event was followed by a theatre performance by a German group DIE MIMOSEN on 18th September 2018. The two-member group performed “Josephine and the Brothers of the Wind” – a fairytale centering on climate change at the Goethe-Institut’s auditorium.
PASCH “Schools: Partners for the Future” (PASCH) initiative has started its journey in Bangladesh since 2009 since then it has five partner schools in Bangladesh. Currently, there are more than 1400 young learners are being taught German by their 19 well trained PASCH teachers. Recently, the PASCH initiative has extended their collaboration with all the five partner schools.
Under the “Schools: Partners for the Future” (PASCH) initiative, Goethe-Institut supports five partner schools in Bangladesh in offering German language classes. In the school year 2017/2018, 1.380 students learned German as a foreign language in different levels. The PASCH-initiative in Bangladesh was started by the Goethe-Institut Bangladesh with a programme to train teachers in both the necessary language skills as well as teaching skills for interactive modern language teaching. Today, 19 teachers are providing quality education in German language while Goethe-Institut provides continuous support in teachers’ training. Furthermore, students of German language in the five PASCH schools receive many opportunities to visit the Goethe-Institut for example for film screenings and theater plays as well as to participate in youth camps in South Asia and Germany.
