Desh Natok stages Nityapuran

Cultural Correspondent
Theatre troupe Desh Natok staged 97th and 98th shows of its acclaimed production Nityapuran on Friday at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The play, written and directed by Masum Reza, revolves around Ekalavya, a character from the epic Mahabharata.
The story of Ekalavya in the play Nityapuran differs from the original story in the Mahabharata.
In the ancient epic, Ekalavya is a short character, a young aspirant warrior of lowborn, whose dreams of becoming a master archer and warrior were crushed after he became aware that due to his lowborn lineage he can neither learn archery nor become a warrior.
In Nityapurana, Ekalavya surpasses all greatest warriors including Arjuna and questions the dignity of the pandavas and the society they have built to protect themselves and their pride.
Mamun Chowdhury, Kamal Ahmed, FirozAlam, LorenceUjjal Gomez, Hossain Nirob, Mainul Hasan, Samapon Sarkar and Bonna Mirza acted in the play.
The troupe will stage 99th and 100th shows of the play on July 12 at the academy. On the occasion of Nityapuran’s 100th show, the troupe will arrange a seminar on July 12 where Actor Jayanta Chattopadhyay will present the keynote paper titled ‘ShilpoBichareyNityapuran’. The seminar will be held at the seminar room of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy at 10:00am.
