Theatre troupe Palakar staged Syed Waliullah’s experimental play titled ‘Ujaney Mrityu’ with minor changes in the plot at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Friday.
Director Aminur Rahman Mukul portrayed the sorrows and struggles of fishermen using the literary technique of magic realism and elements of absurd theatre.
In the play, two fishermen are seen talking to each other continuously. One of them recollects his past and tells his friend how he lost his wife and sons because of natural calamities.
The fisherman’s reminiscences are portrayed on stage through different characters played by male and female actors of the troupe. Though there are some inconsequential and insignificant dialogues, the director has relayed philosophical messages through them.
‘I have tried to portray the hard life and struggles of fisherman in our country. I hope the audience found the play entertaining,’ Aminur Rahman Mukul, head of Palakar and director of the play.
